I was somewhat skeptical about the forecast of snow. I was out yesterday afternoon and it was just a little light snow. I was thinking that this was just another snowstorm, but on rereading the forecast I saw something that changed my mind. This storm was being compared to the blizzard of 1978, a snowstorm I remember in detail.
The snow picked up after I got home and really got going in the evening. By the morning Manhattan had 15 inches of snow and by the time it stopped snowing in the early afternoon, the total accumulation was 19.7 inches. The snow and the strong winds made it a blizzard.
Broadway in the snow
There was a ban on cars to permit the streets to be cleared and it was odd/amazing to walk out to Broadway and see one of the busiest streets in the city virtually carless. The sidewalks on my block were shoveled and with my winter boots -- one of my best investments ever -- it was easy walking. I'm optimistic that by tomorrow noon the cross walks will be cleared and crossing streets won't be an issue. I don't have to go out, but I've got a prescription to pick up and I'm ready to get beyond my block.
Besides watching almost endless weather reporting, I took a virtual chair Yoga class, made lasagna and started a new book. I also did some of the usual puttering around -- phone calls, email and editing photographs. The only item on my calendar was going to Yoga in person, so I was happy not to have to cancel anything.
I hope everyone else who was part of Blizzard 2026 has heat, light and and is able to clear the snow quickly. Here's to spring dreams!
As ever, thanks for visiting and keep cozy.

I have cousins living in Massachusetts. They are being inundated by snow, but have not lost electricity. Whew! Your photos of New York with the snow are fantastic. How are you surviving with your new socialist mayor? Just wondering. How can he ask for ID's to shovel snow from the street but not support those in voting? Blessings!
You all really got hit hard! Be careful going out in case sidewalk get icy. I don't miss snow at all. We don't get much here and I'm thankful. I remember the blizzard of 78, I was in Ohio at the time and we got hit hard. It took a long time for things to get back to normal again. We only lost power for a short time and I was so thankful. Hope the worst of winter is now over for all of you!
For a change, Carol, NYC received more snow than here in Nashua, NH. We only received about 6 inches from Monday's storm added to the couple of inches received Friday overnight. There is a forecast for some light snow on Wednesday morning. Amazing to see NYC streets devoid of traffic.
Goodness me ... awful weather.
Keeps safe and warm.
All the best Jan
These images are sobering, indeed! Thank you for letting us know you're safe and secure.
We get snow days, even as adults! It's amazing, seeing NYC that way. (A friend is visiting and wasn't too disappointed his flight home was canceled!)
Wow, those pictures are something. We got some snow in the mountains but none in the city.
That is amazing. I can imagine the peace, but would worry about loss of power. I hope the snow soon clears for you.
Thanks for the return visit! I still have relatives in the Voluntown/Mystic area of CT... I was born in New London. They all are trying to stay warm from all the snow, as well. I can imagine how quiet it is right now! No traffic...
Be safe and try to keep warm!!
hugs

That's a lot of snow. We didn't get any of that. Our storm was Friday night with between 6-8 inches. So that added to what we had already. Trying to get to the compost bin I had snow almost up to my knees to get through.
Wow, I had no idea you got that much snow.
Your pictures are fantastic.
I've really enjoyed your blizzard posts, and these photos are incredible.
