Part of my mileage on Sunday
I didn't dream that in December 2016 when I first decided to walk 1,000 miles in 2017, I would still be walking in 2024. Not only would I still be walking in 2024, but that I would hit my once-goal of 1,000 miles in mid-November, which is definitely a first. I looked back on past posts and found I met my goal on December 12 in 2018 and December 20 in 2022. Despite a few new chronic orthopedic conditions I'm very happy I'm still walking wherever I go.
Loved this bench promoting kindness in Sedona
Loved my walks along the River Seine and this view of Notre Dame Cathedral
The biggest component of walking a thousand or eleven hundred miles is consistency. A few days I barely eked out a mile and a half, but most days were closer to three miles. It's become a big part of my life and it's just something I do now. I'm grateful for everyone who's walked with me, both actually and my friends far and near who are supportive. You all have made what could be a chore a lot of fun.
What about 2025? I'm planning to revert to my original goal of 1,000 miles. I may end up walking eleven hundred miles, but want to take off some of the mileage pressure. There's also the issue of the weather. New York had about three inches of snow last year, which made winter walking much less challenging. I'm hoping for more snow this winter -- the reservoirs really need it -- and that will make the winter more challenging.
Is anyone else walking with me? The goal can be 100 miles or two thousand. I'd love to have some virtual company along the journey.
Autumn is fully here in New York and I found my gloves and a light winter coat. It's that time.
As ever, thanks for visiting and have a great walking day!

I walk a lot every day - I just neglect to add up my miles each week. I will definitely join with you and try harder to keep track in the new year. Do you still have the Facebook group? I admire how much you walk. It no doubt keeps you healthy and happy!
Oh Buttercup, I love that street scene photo and the friendship bench.I count my steps using an app on my iphone and walk 40 minutes each day with my pup. I think with all the miles you walk I am calling you a "walk star", sort of like a "rock star." Keep on walking girl.
You have very lovely views when you walk. Did you do a 1000 per year or a 1000 all together? Either way - it is awesome.
Due to both of our health concerns, I've not resumed my walking ritual since 2021. Nevertheless, I recently promised my new healthcare provider I'd start again -- and here you are with a welcome invitation.
I'm considering buying a lightweight back support for my own osteo challenges. Is that something you've done or would recommend? TIA!
Sadly, I no longer am able to walk much at all. But I consider the bright side, I can walk some. You are very blessed to be able to do so. I enjoy all the pictures you share of the walks you take. Thanks so much.
I also try to walk each day and while 10,000 steps is usually a goal, and I know that was a number devised by a pedometer company years ago. However, I do try to do at least 7-8,000 on days that it's not possible. I track steps on my Apple watch and will have to check if it can convert to miles because I am curious now.
Awesome and Congrats to you for reaching your goal. You've got me curious. I look at my day totals, and I know I'm not as consistent as I used to be; but haven't thought about looking at year totals. I'm going to see if I can get that data. With the change in fitbit and no longer having the dashboard, I'm finding it hard to get some of the info. Keep up the good work. Enjoyed your photo's.
I'm so glad I decided to join you on your walking journey a couple years ago. My walks aren't as exciting as yours but just getting out of the house, breathing in the fresh air, enjoying the scenery around me gives me reason to get outside and keep moving. And I'm able to combine two activities for 6 months of the year: walking and golf. We had a great golf season this year, playing 2-3 times a week, walking 18 holes (over 4 miles) each time.
I too am on track to achieve my 1,100 miles goal for this year, and beyond. This is great incentive for me to continue this journey through 2025. Thank you, friend, for inviting me and taking me along.
