A Reminder from the Buttercupland Department of Public Health

Where I spent (some of) my morning

The Department of Public Health here in Buttercupland once again reminds citizens of Buttercupland that routine screenings save lives and the life you save may be your own. It also might be the life of someone we love. We practice what we preach in Buttercupland and I've set up my routine screenings.  My Mammogram was accomplished today, dermatologist is next month and I even scheduled the dreaded colonoscopy for January. Check, check, check.

There's always anxiety going for a mammogram, but thankfully, the result was "See you next year," and that's the best news of the month. I'm fortunate that the radiology practice where I've been going for the last twenty years is unique. One of the radiologists reads the mammogram while I wait and then talks to me about their findings. I know that's not the norm anymore, but I am so grateful that I didn't have to carry the anxiety waiting for a letter or phone call.

Autumn finally seems to have arrived in New York City. My flip flops are formally retired and I'm carrying gloves with me all the time now. As always to my amazement Thanksgiving is next week and cranberries are bought and waiting in the refrigerator for my annual cranberry/pear/ginger relish. I'm starting to make lists and more lists, but somehow even when I'm checking things off, the lists don't seem to get shorter. Does anyone else have the same issue? I'm pretty sure I'm not alone in the endless lists this time of year.

As ever, thanks for visiting and take good care.

I just finished my screenings too. Always good to get them done. One more vax to go. We were 60s yesterday; snow predicted tonight. I have my cranberries, too. Your recipe sounds good. I always use ginger but the pear sounds great!

Dear Buttercup,
Your loyal readers always appreciate your thoughtful and timely blog posts. Underwent my (latest) colonoscopy recently, as is periodically required once we Baby Boomers reach a certain age. Happily, no acute issues, but your timely reminder of the importance of regular “tuneups” is appreciated. Meanwhile, I’m sure that your cranberry-pear-ginger relish will be a most welcome addition to whatever Thanksgiving dinner you attend.🤗

Good for you and all your appointments. It's better to know how you're doing than to wonder about it for a while. I've always had to wait for the letter or phone call myself. I too am looking forward to Thanksgiving and will be make green bean casserole to share with my family. I do love it so! Wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving my friend. Gobble til you wooble!

How timely. I had my annual wellness visit yesterday (when did they go from annual physical to wellness visit?). Mammogram was completed in September. Eyes, dental cleaning...done. I don't mind clumping the appointments close together...gets them over and done with at once.
I'll be making my favorite corn bread, sausage and apple stuffing for Thanksgiving this year. I haven't made this in a few years; it's a bit tedious but hey, what the heck. I'm retired. I can afford to take a whole day to prepare it.

Very proud of you for getting the mammogram completed and thankful for the good results. Mine is tomorrow.
Let's talk about those never-ending lists. First we are very thankful we can keep working on them - - we have the health and enough energy - - but I only want to do stuff one time and not have to backtrack or repeat it - - which is what I am having to do this week because something still has a problem. Oh well - - there is a reason for it all. "In all things give thanks , , , " I Thessalonians 5:18

Timely health checkup reminders that come at good time, Carol, as the best gift we can give to ourselves is staying healthy. Cranberries are a favorite of mine as well and I have already made cranberry relish this week.
