Low Spending September

Here's to Low Spending September

There's going to be a lot of window shopping and photo taking next month, and a lot less actual spending and shopping. At least that's my plan. I committed to Low Spending August and did a lot less shopping, but I didn't track my savings, i.e., how much I didn't spend. My plan for September is to track how much I saved.

I do a lot of walking in Manhattan and there are treasures on every corner. It's easy to spend ten dollars just walking from home to the library, less than a mile away. I might stop for an iced coffee, see some cute product on sale at the drugstore when I stop in to pick up a prescription and pick up a mango or two at the fruit stand on the corner. None of this is bad, but it's about ten dollars more than I needed to spend. This month's goal is to cut the random spending.

This rack of facial masks -- a number on sale -- called out to me when I stopped at the drugstore after a dental appointment. There were any number I wanted to try for the low, low price of $2.99, but it was $2.99 I didn't need to spend. Thankfully I snapped a picture and walked by.

These products called out to me, too, but I just said hello and walked on.

I'm guessing I can save fifty dollars in September by cutting back on my daily spending. In the interest of transparency I will be tracking and reporting weekly on how much I don't spend. I have no major purchases planned, though I may replace my ancient air conditioner if I see an especially good sale. I also want to replace t-shirts and my fall jacket. The t-shirts have seen better years and the jacket is way too big. I've been wearing the jacket for at least ten years, so I've definitely gotten my money's worth.

I'm doing the first giveaway on Coffee Light and Mysteries (Mostly) Noir, the companion blog to Buttercupland. I've returned to more regular reading and am reaching out to mystery readers in Buttercupland. Just click the link and it's a quick comment to enter the giveaway.

It was 95 in New York City today, so we know it's still summer. I won't mind the temperature dropping, but I love no jacket and no sock weather. How about you?

As ever, thanks for visiting and enjoy the last of August!

This will be interesting I think. The only time I can keep from spending is to not leave the house. Everything calls out to me, it knows I am an easy target. I hope you do well.
I hate to see summer go but we have had the hot temperatures in Michigan also.I am reading again too, so I am off now to Coffee Light and Mysteries (Mostly) Noir.

Greetings from Bangkok, where we will always be in no sock, no jacket weather!
Good luck with your low spending August. I was interested to see the latest consumer trends were reporting an increase in experiential purchases as many of us would rather have experiences rather than goods... mind you does that mean you can have a facial at a beauty salon? Cheaper to buy the $2.99 face mask haha!
Happy tracking!

I have been spending some gift certificates I have been given but my purchases always seem to go beyond their value. I need very little, but when I have free money, I tend to go overboard and buy unnecessary things. I often regret it later.

You DO have so many temptations and the small amounts add up. But it also adds to the fun of living there! Hugs!

I love the idea of seeing how much you can save. Besides necessities that I need I try never to spend full price for anything I need. If it's not on sale, then I don't need it. Things do wear out after awhile, but spending time to find the best price for what you get is worth the time it takes to do so. We were in the 90's here the past few days, but thankfully we are cooler today. Yes, I do love no sock and no jacket weather too!

Spending money on nonessentials can really sneak up on a person.
Your idea for saving money throughout September is a great idea, esp. with December right around the corner and all the gift buying that we do in December :)

Thanks for the inspiration!

Smiles :)

I like your idea of a low spending September and will keep that as a goal all September and see how it works. You walked right by that Essie display, good girl, I do like their nail polish but have plenty.

Post retirement, for the most part I've been able to resist non-essentials. I think peer pressure - even in one's 60's - can account for careless spending. We still need to cut back on eating out so often.

I might be able to join you in low-spending September. My major purchases for my apartment were made in August and the other big purchase won't be made until October. The only big purchase I am going to make is either a larger bTU a/c for the living room and move the living room one into the bedroom. Or, I might buy a portable a/c so I can move it from place to place.

I'll do that by tomorrow. Then it will just food for me and for Duncan.
