I happened by the Humane Society of NY found myself walking in, then up to the 3rd floor. I asked, just asked, about a small dog and was sent to the back.

Any one with an dog or cat knows that you are not the one who chooses. You are chosen. This scruffy, mostly terrier bounded to the front of his cage, jumped up and down, and didn't leave the front. He was so happy, had spirit, and had an adorable face. He chose me.

When I let him out he went running around the floor and then came back to me. He also played with one of the cats that was on the floor. Since i had a cat, that was perfect.

I was hooked - i filled out the application. The HSNY checked my references. On the day I came to pick him up, he was let out of his cage and he came running up to me.

That was 12 years ago - August 22, 2000. End of story.

Dogs are wonderful. Someone once said that a dog is one species that loves you more than himself.BJ PUPhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01675694191317911766noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6930223252966474185.post-90526522858062463972012-08-17T22:58:27.906-04:002012-08-17T22:58:27.906-04:00This comment has been removed by the author.BJ PUPhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01675694191317911766noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6930223252966474185.post-59609703809008745452012-08-13T22:57:17.026-04:002012-08-13T22:57:17.026-04:00Isn't this the breed that was touted at Westmi...Isn't this the breed that was touted at Westminster as "they allow you the fantasy that you are in charge"?
a/bAshleigh Burroughshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05790757220725900941noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6930223252966474185.post-38635973483560536772012-08-11T18:55:55.056-04:002012-08-11T18:55:55.056-04:00From what I understand about French Bulldogs, one ...From what I understand about French Bulldogs, one must always be on guard or they will get over, such as swearing that they have been very good and haven't received a treat in weeks.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16349087080262856079noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6930223252966474185.post-79389740278500810532012-08-11T15:42:21.328-04:002012-08-11T15:42:21.328-04:00Falling in love with a puppy is how I ended up wit...Falling in love with a puppy is how I ended up with a West Highland White Terrier instead of the wasshing machine I went to buy back in the 80's. (Little/no shedding, no hyperactivity or yapping.) Unfortunately, the going $$$ for a purebred was beyond my purse-strings.

In the end, I happened on a For Sale by an "accidental" breeder. When I stopped by to see the puppies, I was instructed to remain still ... so I sat, cross-legged and mute while the lady went to fetch an arm-full. When she set them down, Caraleigh was the first to notice me ... then waddle across the floor and plunk herself in my lap.
She picked me ... and has been my best friend and confidant for the last 12 years. Literally the best thing that's ever happened to me.

Just listen to your heart ... and the rest will sort itself out.Mevely317https://www.blogger.com/profile/14786988262452989091noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6930223252966474185.post-30698643316680378412012-08-09T15:37:22.706-04:002012-08-09T15:37:22.706-04:00He is adorable and looks and sounds like he'd ...He is adorable and looks and sounds like he'd be a great dog! We have 2 cats for the reasons you stated; I am not into walking a dog in the snow. Many years ago we had a dachshund because I love the breed and I'd love another one some day -a mini- when we no longer have the cats. I believe Martha Stewart has 2 French bulldogs. I have already considered breeds for our next dog knowing we will be older: does not shed, under 20 lbs. Just giving thought to the future :)

Best wishes as you consider this endeavor!GratefulPrayerThankfulHearthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05912258806814037028noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6930223252966474185.post-48885265552462018802012-08-09T07:51:11.634-04:002012-08-09T07:51:11.634-04:00My late mom was blind and at age 76 had never had ...My late mom was blind and at age 76 had never had a pet. A guy my hubby worked with had bought two dachshund puppies from a local respectable breeder. Not long after, he told us the breeder was going to retire the mommy - which was our beloved Harriet. Harriet was a loyal companion to mother for two years before she passed away. Harriet continues to bring us so much joy and warms our heart. I sincerely hope you will consider a dog. Harriet was 4 when we got her, so we did not have to endure the "puppy" years!!!
