My last summer 2025 excursion
Today I took my last summer excursion and it was only a few miles south of home.
Sometimes -- at least on social media -- it may look as though I'm traveling all the time. I think that's mostly because I post more frequently when I'm traveling. But most of my life is spent within a few miles of where I live. I'm fortunate that there's so much so close by, but every once in awhile I realize I haven't gone more than a few miles from home for a few weeks. in the last few weeks I've been making a conscious effort to get out of my neighborhood. I took a trip to Lower Manhattan a few weeks ago, a trip to Chinatown last week and a trip to Hudson Yards today.
The entrance to the High Line
Hudson Yards is one of my favorite places to visit in Manhattan. It's the site of a mall -- a great indoor walking space in the winter -- apartment buildings, a park and a fabulous performance space, the Shed. It's also the beginning of the High Line, which is an urban park set on elevated section of an abandoned railroad track. It's become one of the most popular places to visit in New York City. I didn't do the walk today, but I've done it a number of times and look forward to many more walks on the High Line.
Want to watch a movie?
One of the things I especially enjoy are the special events at Hudson Yards. The photo above is the outdoor screening area and there's a giant screen, not shown, on the left. One of my all-time favorite programs was an event sponsored by Hallmark last fall, the Jingle Stop Tour, highlighting their line up of 2024 Christmas movies.

A very fun evening at Hudson Yards, October 2024
When I look at the last photograph, I am reminded that this last day of summer, today, will soon yield to fall, which begins tomorrow afternoon in the Northern Hemisphere. There was already a breeze off the Hudson River, which is just one street away from Hudson Yards. It's time to put my shorts and sandals away and before I know it, it will be time to get my gloves out. As the song goes, "it's time to dress for fall."
As ever, thanks for visiting. Take good care, friends.

Ah, it's still like summer here, I 'm getting my fall clothing out very slowly here. No need to wear sweater or anything to warm. Hope you enjoy all the lovely things far brings away with it.
ReplyDeleteHappy Autumn to you, I hope the gloves aren't needed for a while. I'm sad I didn't get to see you this summer - next year!

Thanks, Carol, for acquainting us with Hudson Yards and the various events that go on there. I'd never even heard about that part of New York before today. Enjoy the first day of fall!
ReplyDeleteFor those of us who don't live in/near New York, seeing this post is like seeing one of Paris or London! Hudson Yards sounds great!
ReplyDeleteI haven't worn sandals in weeks. Long sleeves and an extra layer called for her now. Hoping for rain!
ReplyDelete... and I wish you a happy Fall/Autumn.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
This looks like a great place to visit, Carol, and despite my many trips to NYC years ago, Hudson Yards, was missed. How wonderful to be exploring places close to home.
