And we're celebrating National Coffee Day
Today is one of my favorite days of the year, National Coffee Day. It's the day that I and millions of others who love coffee officially celebrate this magic beverage. As many long-time citizens of Buttercupland know, coffee is one of my favorite things and I celebrate coffee unofficially every day. It's a (very) rare day that doesn't include coffee.
I've been sticking close to home for the last few days with a cold. But I felt better today -- Yay! -- and decided I'd celebrate Coffee Day at a new coffee place. I found a place on an easy bus ride near Times Square and celebrated the day with an iced espresso. And since I was at a bagel store -- Bagel Market -- I added the unofficial sandwich of New York City, the bagel with egg and cheese.
As you can see it was tough to choose a bagel for my sandwich. I went with a whole wheat bagel and customized it with the "Jersey," which is Taylor ham, egg and American cheese. There were so many choices, but this was just the right combo for a celebration of coffee and the bagel, too.
My celebration meal
I know the presentation of my coffee and sandwich isn't elegant, but it was delicious. The coffee had good flavor and the bagel and fixings were a great combination. It's one of my favorite foods, but it's a treat and not one that I do often. But today was a celebration, and I made up for my indulgence at lunch with a spinach salad at dinner.
About having a cold...I thought my allergies were going wild at the end of last week and then I developed a big, not-sleeping-through-the-night cough. I live a few blocks from an urgent care center and decided to stop in to rule out the maladies that can become serious for those of us over 70. While I don't think of myself as a senior, I am, and I've learned to take respiratory issues seriously. But thankfully my lungs are clear and I don't have Covid or flu and yes, it's just a cold. But I've also learned that sometimes our bodies say that it's time to slow up for a few days and that's exactly what I've done.
As ever, thanks for visiting. Happy and healthy wishes!

Oh yes! our bodies do let us know when to slow down. I try to that regularly so I don't get sick. I am a coffee lover too and I celebrated too, only I had my coffee at home. I also like bagel sandwiches. They are a meal in one !
ReplyDeleteI'm a coffee-lover, too, and every day is reason to celebrate! Glad it's only a cold, Carol, and it certainly is smart to check those things out at our age. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteI love coffee too Carol. And bagels. That sure was an assortment. I am glad you didn't have anything more than a cold. It was good you checked. Guess what - I am a great grandma as of September 21. Mackenzie - she is a beauty.
ReplyDeleteEvery day is coffee day for me! LOL!
ReplyDeleteTwo of my favorite things! I hope you are feeling better.
ReplyDeleteWhen's National Tea Day? I'm not a coffee drinker but would have enjoyed that bagel. Glad you're feeling better.
ReplyDeleteGlad your cold was not something more serious, Carol. And, we know Taylor ham sliders very well being NJ natives. The bagel and coffee looked 😋
ReplyDeleteThat was good it was just a cold and nothing more serious, but do take care.
ReplyDeleteKeep on enjoying your coffee.
Happy October wishes.
All the best Jan
Hi Buttercup, for some reason your posts have not been showing up in my feeds so I came looking for you today. I gave up coffee for three years because of stomach ache and then three years ago discovered delicious low acid coffee so I am back to my one cup a day. Lucy Jo's is a good company for low acid coffee. I do have a latte once a week at a coffee shop too. Enjoy your coffee.
