A Critical Question...What's Your Candy Choice for Halloween?

Amazingly, this is the first year that I have chosen candy to give out for trick-or-treaters. When I first moved to New York in 1975 I moved to a small building with no elevator, "a walkup." There were no children in our building and we didn't get any trick-or-treaters. I moved to the building where I live now in 1991, but worked during the trick-or-treat hours. We have lots of kids in our building and our system is to sign up if we are interested in giving out candy on Halloween. Probably tomorrow the sign-up sheet will appear in the elevator and we can indicate what hours we will be home. I'm looking forward to being part of the Halloween fun and I realized I needed to pick out candy.

It was an overwhelming choice and I came up with some loose criteria. I wanted several kinds of candy. I needed something for kids who didn't eat chocolate, something that didn't have peanuts and something I could keep if it was left over. I also wanted to pick candy that was on sale. I also wanted to defer my candy purchase until as close to Halloween as I could, which would give me less time to dip into my treasures.

I probably could have waited until tomorrow, but I was out tonight and decided I could be mature and keep candy in the house. Based on my candy criteria I am the proud owner of a bag of Reese's, one of my all time favorite candies, a bag of Kit Kats, and a bag of gummy Life Savers. I am hoping that the Life Savers will be left over, because I am much less tempted to eat them as quickly as the other two kinds. In the interest of truth in blogging I have already eaten a peanut butter cup, and yes, it was delicious.

How do you pick the candy you give out at Halloween and what are your choices for this year?

As ever thanks for visiting and take good care of yourself.

Gros bisous

I like giving the fruit roll-ups that are made without any added sugar along with Halloween-themed erasers, etc... There are a number of children in the area who aren't allowed to have sugar for various reasons, so this way no one is left out!

Normally we just hand out small candy bars. It's what I liked to get when I was a child and I think most children enjoy them!

I like anything with chocolate. That's why I buy Skittles or Dots, on the Sunday before , so there is a chance there will be some left for Halloween on a Thursday night.

My husband bought 2 big bags of mixed candy. I told him chocolate, he came home with mixed, lol. Looking forward to handing out candy, this is our first time in 20 + yrs we have lived in town. Have a blessed day.

Hope you have fun with trick or treating. I always sit on the porch and hand out candy. This year the mixture includes some KitKats and Snickers.

I buy some candy that I don't like so I am not tempted, some that I like but can do without, and one bag of candy that I love. I always buy tootsie rolls because a bag of those go a long way. I usually get about 100+ kids because I live in a rural area and I am in the only development with sidewalks and houses not far apart. Parents drive their kids in from miles away.

Have fun!

My favorite would be Snickers. However I don't buy Snickers. I buy something I don't like - like Skiddles. Then i don't eat it!

Instead of trick or treating, Douglas has a Ghost Walk in our local gym. There are games and treats and prizes for the kids. This started years ago, when the city fathers decided that it was too dark and cold to be out. So I don't buy candy. Instead, we go over to our friends' Pat and Kim's house and watch the festivities!

Dear Carol, this year I'm giving out Nature Valley Sweet and Salty Nut bars. For those children who can't eat nuts, I bought taffy. I so hope I get to give it all away. If not, I'll eat it! Peace.

Oh you are funny with your candy choices....I tend to buy what I like which is definitely not the way to go, since I cannot stay away from a good Snicker bar anytime. I never think about those poor children with peanut allergies....good point.

I don't give out candy since I don't live in a neighborhood, but if I did I would probably buy the kind that I like....3 musketeers, milky way, kit kat :) Hugs to you!

Well, I must confess that I am not known for giving out candy at Halloween. This year, I have packages of Annie's Bunnies and Tiny Twist Pretzels. Perhaps word has spread, and this may be why we don't have any children come by.:-)

We live in the woods so no trick-or-treaters, but I do love candy corn and almost any chocolate!

I was in Costco and bought a huge bag of assorted , Hersey, Reese's, MilkyWay, Snickers, Kit Kat, etc. It has 150 pieces. Whatever is left I'll bring to jury duty. i can't be trusted with so much chocolate. I'll put back the 13 pounds I just lost.

I'll just leave the candy in a bag at my door. BJ barks when the bell rings and that won't go over well with me.

I'll fight you for those Reese's cups, Carol! :)
Actually, Tom likes to do the shopping and prep. Were it up to me, I'd come back with stuff I deliberately DON'T like, like PayDay and sticky stuff that adheres to my molars!

Have fun on Thursday!
