Lucky

Somewhere early in this decade I developed terrible insomnia. I had always been a very sound sleeper, so this was a new and unwelcome development. I'm sleeping better now, but not back where I had been.

I started to enter contests in the small hours of the night. Lots and lots of on-line contests. I've never won anything enormous -- a trip or a car for example, but I've won some fun things and love my sunglasses from Elle Magazine and the books I've won for my book club friends. Tonight's surprise in the mail was mascara from Lucky Magazine. It was a nice surprise to come home to on an icy and cold night.

It got me to thinking about luck. Before I started entering (and winning) contests I'd never thought of myself as an especially lucky person. And yet when I reflect I am far beyond lucky. I am blessed with great good fortune. Have all my prayers and wishes come to reality? The answer to that is no. Some of the great prayers of my heart are still unrealized. But to have the love of G'd, a warm home, a job that provides for my needs, friends, family, the good fortune to be an American and yes, the sweet little things of life -- whether it's mascara in the mail, my favorite key lime pie or a new paperback novel -- I am indeed lucky.

Tagged!

As a new blogger, it's very exciting to get a comment. Very exciting! And it was still more exciting to get a follower. It made my day. I am delighted to have Stacey at A Reilly Farm Wife Praying to Become Pregnant... as a blog friend. Stacey asked folks who posted on her highly recommended (by me!)blog to post the fifth photo in the fifth folder. Here is mine.

Last winter I visited a friend from high school who now lives in Florida. We stayed in Bonita Springs on the west coast and had a great time sightseeing, relaxing, sitting by the pool, shopping and eating ice cream. This picture was taken at sunset on beautiful Sanibel Island, one of my favorite places.

Thanks, Stacey, for being a blog friend and for a moment to remember a sweet memory.

Just downloaded my pictures and wanted to share one of the photos of Cameron and a picture of Miami as our ship sailed off for a wonderful vacation.

Home, Sweet Home!

I'm back in my home, sweet home. Actually I'm back in a small, but cozy apartment, listening to the radiators (my building was built in 1910 and we've actually got old-fashioned radiators)keeping me warm.

Great trip. Without knowing it our ship had a group of people signed up for a "Soap Opera Cruise." I'm not a soap watcher, but there were lots of soap stars. One of my friends, who is a soap fan, recognized Cameron Mathison, and we got to chat with him. Don't get to meet a lot of celebrities, so this was a lot of fun. And if anyone is a fan of Cameron, he couldn't be nicer. His wife is lovely and his kids are adorable.

Back to reality. The apartment is too quiet. I miss my friends! By tomorrow I'll be back in the midst of daily life and that has many pluses, but now I'm feeling lonely. The refrigerator has 2 yogurts and some pretty sorry apples. I've got to go to the grocery, unpack, finish sorting mail and get myself ready to don boots, down coat and trek off to work tomorrow.

Frozen Key lime Pie on a Stick

Blessing of the week is frozen key lime pie on a stick. I'm on a four day cruise with friends and we are having a great time. Manifold blessings -- friendship, warmth, fun sights and yummy yummy key lime pie on a stick. We seemed to get the last two pieces in Key West!

So glad to be out of the cold. No down coat, no boots and no hat. Wish I could package the sunshine and take it back and send it on to friends!

Saturday morning

Love these Saturday mornings. It's quiet -- just the sound of traffic outside my window. I need to get going -- services, lunch with a friend to celebrate her birthday. But it's soooo nice staying inside, especially when it's 15 degrees out. Once I'm dressed in all of my layers it will be okay, but for now I'm loving being indoors and not having to rush around.

I am still rejoicing in the miracle of USAir flight 1549. I first heard the plane "had crashed" from one of my colleagues, and all I could think of was how cold it was and started to cry. We're about two miles from the place in the Hudson where the plane came down and it felt very near to me. I went back to my office and just kept praying, and by the time I was ready to leave on Thursday, the news was that everyone on the plane had been rescued.

New Year, New Blog

New Year, new blog. I'm not sure how much I'll blog, but it's the beginning of the year and a time for new beginnings.

This year...the end of 2008 was a tough time. But it's a new year and I'm cultivating a new attitude. Instead of looking in the mirror and seeing someone -- me -- and thinking "Who is that tired, chubby, old looking woman?" I'm going to take on a buttercup attitude and attempt to see myself and the world in a happier and more upbeat way.

Don't know how long it will last or how much I will actually blog, but tonight is the first night of Buttercup counting her blessings.

Happy 2009 and hopes and prayers for a good year for all.
