What is the AARP Position on Orthodontia?

It's been a hectic few days. Our local election, the World Series, working and my chipped tooth! The chipped tooth has been rebonded and thankfully seems to be holding its own. But I had a surreal moment at the dentist's office on Monday afternoon. It seems my bite may be causing my problem and somehow orthodontia might be an answer. Buttercup is reeling! I had thought my days of wearing braces -- 1960 to 1965 -- were well behind me. This is a last resort, but if it's orthodontia ($$) vs. another implant ($$$$$) for my front tooth, I'll certainly think about it. Senior citizens and braces -- is this usual or is Buttercup a trendsetter? Does anyone have an orthodontist's number in their speed dial?

Enjoy a beautiful autumn day!

  1. Oh Buttercup!
I say go for it. If the bite is causing the problem, who cares how old we are. They make braces that are clear, and braces that are hidden behind if it is a visual for you. Who knows it might give you back a little kick in your step? Wouldn't that be fun?

Oh sweetie keep us posted, but I say go for it. I had braces at the ripe old age of 35, and it didn't bother me. I am at a point in my life, where I say whatever works for me.

Stop by. I have an interesting post today. You will love it. Country hugs and love, Sherry

  2. I think braces are just becoming common at all ages. Many of my friends who missed it the first time around and considering paying for it themselves now that they realize the permanence of their teeth (or lack their of due to poor teeth). Get the clear ones and if it saves money, it would be worth it. Plus, an automatic reason to change some eating habits I'm sure! Sounds like a bonus to me.

  3. You can even get those "Invisi-Line" ones that go on the back of teeth, I think...they are very hard to see...I would love to be able to have braces again and fix my bite!

Anything that could add to the lastingness of your teeth is a good idea, I think!

  5. I'm hoping that particular number never needs to be in my speed dial for sure. Good luck!

  7. I have several friends, pushing 58, who are wearing braces late in life. I despised wearing mine, nearly the same years that you wore yours. But, they've improved since then, don't cut you cut like they did. My mom is pushing 93, and has all of her teeth, with little repair done over the years. Wish we could all be as lucky as her with ours....good luck, it's your decision....won't be easy to decide.

  8. Oh my, let us know how your trip to the dentist turns out, and whether you choose braces. I hope it isn't too costly, either choice you make.
